Grenada pathologist to cover private practice pathology

Dr. John Fullenwider, pathology medical director at UMMC-Grenada, will give the School of Medicine seminar, "Pathology Private Practice," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Wednesday, June 20

Mayo Clinic faculty to entertain nerve biopsy's role

Dr. Robert J. Spinner, professor of neurosurgery, orthopaedics and anatomy at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, will give the Neuroscience Grand Rounds 2018 Orlando J. Andy Lecture, "The Evolving Role of Nerve Biopsy," from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in the Bank Plus Conference Center on the second floor atrium mall of the Methodist Rehabilitation Center.

Surgery resident to lend vascular perspective

Dr. Ben Shepherd, chief resident in the Department of Surgery, will give the Department of Surgery Grand Rounds presentation, "Vascular Surgery for the General Surgeon: A Resident's Perspective," from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in room CW 106 of the Classroom Wing.

Physiology professor to signal degenerin in VSMCs

Dr. Heather Drummond, professor of physiology and biophysics, will present the Department of Physiology and Biophysics lecture, "Degenerin Signalling in VSMCs," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Cancer Institute researcher to host technology discussion

Dr. Shou-Ching Tang, associate director for clinical and translational research at the UMMC Cancer Institute, will host a series of discussions with pharmaceutical company representatives.

Tang will host a meeting among UMMC Cancer Institute researchers, physicians, staff and representatives of nanoString Technologies, a company that provides tools for translational research and molecular diagnostics, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in room G451 of the Arthur C. Guyton Research Center.

The discussion will focus on the nanoString enzyme-free multi-analyte quantification platform and hybridization chemistry that is 100 percent digital. Individuals involved in cancer care and research and basic scientists interested in using this technology are invited. Lunch will be available on a first-come basis. Editorial cartoonist to deliver bedside humor presentation

Marshall Ramsey, editorial cartoonist for the Clarion-Ledger and Mississippi Public Broadcasting radio and television host, will give the Radiology Grand Rounds presentation, "Bedside Humor is the Best Medicine: How Learning to Laugh Got Me Through Cancer and Life," from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, in classroom S123 (the classroom behind the elevators next to McDonald's).

UAB postdoc to compare renal sodium differences

Dr. Eman Gohar, a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will give the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology presentation, "Sex Differences in Renal Sodium Handling," at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 25, in classroom 5A.

Louisville faculty to review oral bacteria, esophageal cancer

Dr. Huizhi Wang, assistant professor of oral immunology and infectious diseases at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, will present the Microbiology and Immunology seminar, "Oral Bacteria Induced Host Anti-inflammatory Responses and Their Contributions to Esophageal Cancer Susceptibility," at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, in room 4A.
